Safe Routes to School

Safe Routes to School is an international movement that focuses on increasing safety and promoting walking and bicycling to school through the “5Es: engineering, education, enforcement, encouragement, and evaluation."

Iowa State University Extension and Outreach has developed several digital tools to help communities as they work on improving the 5Es. Several of these tools utilize web-based mapping and crowd-sourcing methods to help collect the data necessary for the local SRTS group to make informed decisions about improvements to their SRTS program.
